How can I get to know Jesus?
Firstly, here’s excellent news! God loves you and wants to save you!
Because God loves you, He wants to be in a relationship with you. To accomplish this, Jesus included you in something phenomenal.
Jesus included you!
Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth and took the punishment for the sins of the whole world upon Himself in your place. He had no sin, but bore the sin of the whole world. This includes yours. 1 John 2: 2 “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” He did this by voluntarily laying down His life and dying on the cross and rising again from the dead.
You may be wondering – is your sin not too bad or too much? Well, no – because the Scriptures above clearly state the sin of the “whole world”. Yours, no matter how bad, is only a small part of it.
God wants you to be saved!
That’s right, the Bible teaches us that God wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2: 3-4). This, of course, includes you. So on God’s side the work was done. With Him the door is open to you. The question is, do you want to get to know God and live in relationship with Him?
Spirit will convince you
The Holy Spirit – God’s Spirit – convinces people deep in their hearts of the truth of Jesus’ redemptive work and that He is the ruler of the universe. He also convinces people of their sin and need to be saved. It is He who convinces someone of the truth. This is not something that a person or argument can do.
Does the Spirit convince you? Does He convince you that you need to submit your life to the rule of Jesus? Does He convince you of God’s love for you? Does He convince you of the truth of Jesus’ work? Does He convince you that Jesus is the only way to salvation? For Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14: 6).
Your response
If you are convinced in your heart, you need to “accept” Jesus. We also call it repentance. Repentance is briefly explained below. You can, of course, read the Bible references yourself if you want, or you can talk to someone from our pastoral team. We would love to talk to you, so please contact us.
REPENTANCE
Repentance occurs when one is convinced by the Holy Spirit of sin, righteousness and judgement (John 16: 8), and then responds to it by placing your faith in Jesus and His atoning work on the cross (Rom. 10: 9-10), to ask forgiveness for your sins (1 John 1: 9) and to accept Jesus as Saviour and Ruler of your life (John 1:12). Jesus calls this event “rebirth”. This does not happen automatically, but each person must make a choice for Jesus and come to be born again. It is the only way to share in God’s Kingdom (John 3: 3-5).
Talk to one of our pastoral team members if you want to understand more about being born again or surrendering your life to Jesus. Contact us and simply say “I want to accept Jesus”.
